Here's what you need to *actually* accomplish your New Year Resolutions

Happy New Year, Friends!

I’m sure you’re already inundated with ‘new year resolutions’ content but I have to add my two cents to the convo. No matter what you plan to accomplish in 2022, there are two catalysts I believe will take you past desire to possession. A vision board and reminders around your space will help. Self control and resolve are great. Scheduling and planning will keep you organized but sometimes it’s just not enough. If you want to check items off your 2022 to-do list you’re going to need alignment and accountability.

Imagine you’re on the seashore and your goal is out on the water housed in a gorgeous state of the art yacht. When you get there you'll not only get your goal but also a staff, unlimited food and drink, access to other people with yachts, the freedom to travel the seas, gain new exotic experiences, and see the beauty of creation above and beneath water. - Stay with me. I dream big! - To get there you have to leave what’s familiar and “safe”, aka the shore, and push past people who are comfortable in the shallow. Those on speed boats and fishing boats may try to make you insecure as you row through them. It may get lonely and your arms may grow tired but when the opportunity to turn back presents itself, alignment will offer divine focus.

Alignment brings clarity, convicting you about what you say yes or no to and deterring you from compromise, comfort, and convenience. All you have to do is ask, ‘Will this bring me closer to or further from my goal?’

Then there’s accountability. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 in the Bible says, “Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But pity on him who is alone when he falls and has no one else to lift him up!” Bring someone you trust into the mix. They don’t have to be on the same path as you or even understand the what and why of your goal, they just need to have your back. Accountability can also be cycles you broke out of, trauma you don't want to go back to, naysayers, etc. We can almost always count on hiccups at some point in the journey, but like alignment, accountability will keep you going in the right direction.

I’m truly convinced there is nothing you can’t accomplish when you have this catalyst duo. Money will come and go. Resources will come and go. But alignment and accountability are lasting, they are blinders that block distractions and anchors that keep you from straying.

I believe in you, friend. This can be “your year” to finish with results. Share your resolutions and what you’d like accountability for in the comments!
